Simple & stylish, beautiful yet practical. There's no better way to describe the line of dinnerware called Sophie Conran for Portmeirion.
About Sophie Conran
Together with Portmeirion, Sophie Conran of the Conran design and culinary dynasty has created a range of stylish and practical cookware, tableware and kitchenware. The collection reflects Sophie’s vivacious personality and appreciation of innovative craftsmanship. The pieces in the collection have been designed with a nod to Japanese serenity and a wink at English eccentricity.
A cookery and lifestyle writer with her own food company, Sophie, a busy mother of two, has designed the collection to look as beautiful in the kitchen as it does on the dining table.
All the porcelain pieces in this collection have been tried and tested by Sophie and Portmeirion. Each piece is delicate to the touch, yet highly durable and able to withstand pretty much anything modern life can throw at it – and Sophie should know, with two young kids of her own, all the items within the range have been truly tried and tested by all the family, from the dishwasher to the microwave, the freezer to the oven.
The daughter of Sir Terence Conran, good food and good design have been important influences throughout Sophie's life, and both are major factors behind this new collection.
"As a cook you have to love your ingredients, you need to touch and feel the food you are creating, putting some of your soul into every meal. I wanted to create a range of really tactile products that would incite the same feelings," says Sophie.
This stunning range of porcelain tableware and kitchenware has also been created with the 'foodie' in mind – measuring jugs that morph into serving pieces, mixing bowls that become salad bowls, all the pieces within the collection have been designed to look as good on the dining table as they do in the kitchen.

"NEW YORK (September 25) -- The new Sophie Conran for Portmeirion range of cookware and tableware has won the Elle Decoration Style Award 2006 (in association with department store Marks & Spencer) for “Best in Kitchen.”
"The range includes such kitchen items as a pestle and mortar, pouring bowls, a lemon squeezer and a footed drainer, as well as serving items, such as covered casserole and vegetable dishes. The range has just been extended to include new pieces: two wooden chopping boards and a set of wooden utensils; silver salad severs; and family-sized pie dishes and a pie funnel, among others. In addition, Mummies and Mine, a children’s cookware range, is being launched later this year."
