I bought the Alessi Citrus Squeezer in hopes of finding something similar to the Bosch Porsche Design juicer I own (I wanted a 2nd one for my home in the desert where citrus is plentiful and free). The Bosch juicer is no longer sold in the US and Bosch sold its small appliance business to Siemens. Now there is a Siemens Porsche Juicer (same design), unfortunately it's not available in the US. That juicer is the BEST quality, BEST design, quietest and most powerful home juicer out there and it's a shame you can't find them here.
The Alessi is similar in design. The motor is powerful, but it does slow on heavy grapefruit. It's wonderfully quiet, like Porsche design I have. You activate the motor only when you press the citrus into the cone. If you juice large quantities at a time (as I do), you will need to clean the pulp catcher a few times as it doesn't hold that much pulp. Cleaning is very easy and quick and I pop the plastic parts in the top rack of the dishwasher. One thing I miss is the "spin" button on the Porsche design that, with the lid on, allows you to spin the pulp and get more juice out. Overall, it's well-designed, quiet and relatively powerful. It's the best alternative to the Siemens Porsche Juicer, but the Porsche design rules if you can find one.
