Black Tea, or fully fermented tea, produces about one-half the caffeine found in a comparably sized cup of coffee. Black tea also contains a high amount of polyphenols, or anti-oxidants, which help maintain a healthy body. Often overlooked for its green counterpart, black tea does contain a high amount of flavanoids, which protect cells from damage in cancer and heart disease. Black tea flavanoids, however, are converted into other forms which also pack a healthy punch, including the reduction of cholesterol levels.
To brew hot black tea, brew one level teaspoon of leaves or one tea bag with boiling water per cup for 2-4 minutes. Excellent with a bit of milk.
