Cooking Classes
How are classes designed? Will I be making food myself? What if I just want to sit back and watch?
Most Kitchen Kapers classes combine hands-on participation with observation. Students are invited to roll up their sleeves and actively participate in the preparation of recipes, but are also free to sit back and just observe the chef if they choose. Classes are limited to 15 students.

Our kids and teen classes are Hands-On and incorporate skills and techniques appropriate for younger chefs. These classes are limited to 12 students.

Do I get to eat what we make in class?
Yes! Students get to sample all dishes prepared in our classes. Some classes will prepare a series of dishes, while others will prepare a complete meal (entrée, side dish and dessert). For detailed menu information, please call the East Gate store at 856-778-7705. In addition, students will receive printed copies of the recipes prepared to take home with them.

How do I sign up for a class?
We can process your payment in the store with cash, check or major credit card; reservations can also be made over the phone using a valid credit card. Kitchen Kapers requires payment upon registration in order to reserve your spot in a class. For class availability and registration, please call 856-778-7705.

Can I use a gift certificate to sign up for a class?

What do I need to bring?
For most of our classes, all you need to bring is yourself (and possibly a pen and paper, if you’d like to take notes). Occasionally, a class will require that you bring additional equipment—such as rolling pins, pastry bags, knives and cutting boards—which will be noted in the class’s description. All such items are available in our store and can be purchased prior to the class.

What should I wear?
We recommend that you wear comfortable, casual clothing. For safety reasons, please wear closed-toe shoes. Children are not permitted to wear Heelys in the kitchen. Long hair should be tied back or covered with a hat. If you have an apron, feel free to bring it to the class with you; new aprons are available for sale in our store, and we also have loaner aprons in our kitchen.

Is there an age requirement for any of your cooking classes?
Unless otherwise noted, children must be between ages 6 to 11 to participate in our kids classes. Students ages 12 to 16 are eligible for our teen classes. Adult classes are for students ages 17 and up.

I want to surprise a friend or loved one with a cooking class. Can I sign up someone else for a class?
You may reserve a spot in a class for someone else. At the time of registration, however, please indicate to our staff whether the class is a secret gift for the person, so that in the event of any changes, we do not mistakenly call your loved one and spoil the surprise!

What is your cancellation policy?
Because food must be purchased and class instruction prepared in advance, class fees for cancellations made less than 72 hours prior to class are not refundable. With more than 72 hours notice of a cancellation, credit may be applied to a future class or fees can be refunded. “No shows” will not receive a refund or credit.

If enrollment for a class is insufficient, Kitchen Kapers reserves the right to cancel the class and will notify registered students of the cancellation. In the event of a cancelled class, students may choose to take another class on our current schedule or be fully refunded.

What happens if it snows?
If inclement weather forces us to close our store on the day of a class, or prevents a chef from traveling to our store, the class will be cancelled and registered students can choose to switch into another class or be refunded for the cost of the class.

What happens if I’m sick on the day of my class?
Unfortunately, Kitchen Kapers cannot refund students who fail to attend the class for which they are registered if they do not provide advance notice of their absence.

I’d like to have a birthday party for my child at Kitchen Kapers. What is included, and how much does it cost?
Our kitchen can accommodate groups of up to 15 children (ages 6 and older) for birthday parties. Our standard birthday package costs $300 and includes an hour and a half of instruction and hands-on fun as our chef leads the children through making their own individual pizzas or strombolis, with cupcakes for dessert. For an additional fee, custom menus can be arranged in advance. For more information and to make a reservation, please call the East Gate store at 856-778-7705.

How far in advance should I reserve my party?
The sooner you contact us to reserve a date for your event, the greater the chance we can accommodate you and your guests. In general, we recommend that you reserve at least two months ahead of the event date, although we will do our best to accommodate your group on shorter notice. Payment is required in order to hold your reservation.

What’s your cancellation policy for parties?
We ask for one month’s notice of party cancellations. Customers who cancel a birthday party with at least one month’s notice may reschedule the party for another available date or can be reimbursed in full.

Can I book your kitchen for a private instructional lesson with a chef for me and my friends?
Absolutely. A private party at Kitchen Kapers is a unique way to enjoy a night out with friends, regardless of your (and their) ability and experience level. One of our in-house chefs will plan a custom menu for you and up to 14 guests for a hands-on private party in our kitchen. For more information and to make a reservation, please call the East Gate store at 856-778-7705.

Does Kitchen Kapers provide favors, invitations, balloons or other party decorations?
While Kitchen Kapers does not provide party favors, we do carry the Playful Chef line of children’s cooking products, which make wonderful favors to encourage and educate young chefs-in-training. (You can browse our entire selection of Playful Chef products here.) For product recommendations, please call the East Gate store at 856-778-7705.

Kitchen Kapers does not provide invitations or decorations for parties. However, parents are welcome to bring their own themed paper goods (plates, cups, napkins) and/or plastic utensils for use during the party. Any balloons brought to the party must be weighted down during the party for safety reasons, and may only be distributed to the children outside the store once the party has concluded.

During my child’s birthday party, is it alright for parents to stay at the party?
It is advisable for the birthday child’s parents to remain on site. Other parents are encouraged to browse our store before, during or after the party, but we ask that they not remain in the kitchen area. This policy ensures a better interaction between the children and the chef, and also creates a safer environment for the children.
