Espresso

Though espresso has a distinct aroma and flavor, what makes a coffee espresso is the way it's brewed. The process involves quickly extracting the coffee flavor from the grind with a precise amount of pressure and at the correct temperature.

To create the perfect cup of expresso one must have a number of factors present:

  1. Fresh darkly roasted, finely ground coffee
  2. Densely packed grounds in the proper filter
  3. At least 3 bars of pressure forcing water heated to no less than 192 degrees through the grounds

A true espresso has a crema. Crema is the golden brown foamy extraction that appears when an espresso is properly prepared. Crema is the sure sign that you have combined all the factors needed for making an espresso successfully. One should know however, that crema can only be achieved with a minimum amount of 8 bars of pressure.

Capucino and caffe late are espresso based drinks that have gained tremendous popularity in the United States in the last few years.

Cappuccino is achieved by combining 1/3 espresso, 1/3 steamed milk and 1/3 frothed milk.

Cafe Latte is 1/3 espresso and 2/3 steamed milk.
