The Swiss have been enjoying this delectable cheese dish for centuries.
Its humble origins began when shepherds cut a wheel of cheese in half and placed it on a hot rock near the fire's edge. The cheese slowly bubbled and just before dripping into the fire, the melted cheese was scraped onto a waiting plate of potatoes and pickles.
The word "raclette" comes from the French word "racler" meaning "to scrape off".
Today "raclette parties" are the rage for home entertaining in North America.
