To ensure the longest life possible from your pepper and salt grinders, always keep pepper and salt separate. Never use a peppermill to grind salt! The moisture from salt will corrode the grinding mechanism in a peppermill. A salt mill mechanism is made out of ceramic or stainless steel which will not corrode.
