Read the transcript for our Technivorm Moccamaster KBT-741 Thermal Carafe Coffeemaker video below:Hi, I’m Pete with Kitchen Kapers, and we’re talking about the Technivorm Moccamaster. Some of you might know it as the Club Line. This is the model KBT-741, which is the thermal carafe model. We’re just going to give you an overview of what comes with the machine, how to put it together, how to use it, and why we think it’s such a cool machine.
The first reason we think it’s cool is its' nice retro styling. This is actually the same styling that they’ve been using with this machine since they started making it in the 1960s. It’s still made in the Netherlands and it’s just a great, solid, good looking machine.
Now we are going to go over the parts here. You of course have your carafe, which keeps it nice and warm. You’ve got two lids that come with this carafe now. This is the original lid that it has always come with it. It just screws on. You can brew right into the carafe, and then just screw this on and it will keep it nice and airtight to keep it hot. A lot of people really wanted a brew through lid where you could actually brew into the lid and you didn’t have to switch out lids. So they came out with this a couple years ago, and this is a lid that has a hole down the center, so you can actually put this in and brew right into the center. Now, the one downside to that is it doesn’t keep it quite as hot because it does have that hole in it.
Now I’m going to put it together here. You’ve got your showerhead. You’ll see this nice pattern on the showerhead; which is one of the reasons this makes such good coffee. This just pops on there. Put your water in here, and you’ve got your lid for there.
Now, this plastic reservoir is the only place that water touches plastic. Once the water starts getting heated up, it’s never passing through plastic parts. It’s not passing through a plastic or rubber tubing or anything, because I know that’s really important to a lot of people. You don’t want that really hot water touching any plastic parts. It’s going to pass only through glass and through copper in here.
Take your brew basket. And your brew basket doesn’t have a traditional pause and serve like you might find on some other auto drips. It has this part you can just adjust. So this is a full brew. This is for a little bit slower brew if you really want to maximize the aroma. And then the pause and serve is just all the way down, and it’s not going to drip out the bottom.
That guy goes on there. Your lid goes over there. Of course, you stick your filter and coffee in there. That should go without saying.
We’re going to use the brew through lid. And then let’s just stick this on here to brew. And there’s a little safety switch here, which is a little white button. In order to brew, you need to make sure that your carafe is in place because you don’t want to forget to put the carafe there and brew coffee all over your counter.
So that goes in there. I’ve already got it in the ON position, but we’ll just turn that on like that. And we brew. It makes the best cup of coffee we’ve ever tasted. We sell our own beans that we have custom roasted for us and this is the machine that we’ve chosen to demo in all of our stores to really make sure that we’re getting the best cup of coffee out of our beans.
