Most Portmeirion items (excluding melamine, textiles, etc) are oven to table, freezer, dishwasher, and microwave safe.

Types of Portmeirion Ceramics

Stoneware (used for bakeware and some serving pieces)- This vitreous (non-porous) pottery has been specifically designed to perform satisfactorily at the higher range of temperatures that are normally employed for cooking. Portmeirion Stoneware is capable, therefore, of being used at oven temperatures of up to 400 degrees and is used to manufacture all cookware.


Earthenware (which is used for most items)- This pottery will perform satisfactorily at the lower range of temperatures normally employed for cooking. Portmeirion Earthenware is capable of being used at oven temperatures of up to 330 degrees and is used on the majority of tableware.

Microwave Information

Items that are manufactured in Portmeirion Stoneware and Earthenware are ideally suited for use in cooking in microwave ovens. However, patterns that contain metallic gold as part of the decoration should not be used in a microwave.
