A Little (Bob Kramer) History.
One of only 120 Master Bladesmiths in the United states (and the only Bladesmith in the world that specializes in kitchen knives), Bob Kramer is renowned for his hand-crafted knives. Cook's Illustrated wrote "The Kramer knife outperformed every knife we?ve ever rated." His one-of-a-kind kitchen knives are painstakingly made by hand in his forge in Olympia, Washington and retail for thousands of dollars. If you want one you have to be lucky enough to win the Lottery. And, we're not talking about your state's lottery, although that might help. The lottery we're talking about is how you come to purchase a Bob Kramer original. There's no waiting list you submit your name and hope you get picked! Limited to only a few privileged and lucky cooks, the King of Kitchen Knives decided he wanted to make a line of cutlery that every cook could enjoy and that is how the Kramer by Zwilling Euro Line was born.
Kramer by Zwilling, The Euro Line.
Needing a partner with experience in cutlery production and forging Bob turned to Germany's Zwilling J.A. Henckels, a 200 year old Cutlery Company in the small town of Solingen. "It's old school meets new school". The Euro Line is built to the same specifications as Bob's highly-coveted custom knives. They use high quality 52100 carbon steel, 60-61 HRC, unique brass bolsters and real wood handles. Carbon steel blades take and hold there edge better than stainless. Carbon steel kitchen knives were the standard a few decades ago and preferred by professional chefs worldwide, but home cooks shied away from carbon steel and that is how stainless steel cutlery grew in popularity in the U.S. While carbon steel knives require some simple maintenance and acquire a grayish patina over years of use, they are superior to steel blades when it comes to function. Simply put, the edge of a carbon steel blade is sharper, it holds its edge longer and it is easier to put an edge back on the extremely fine grain structure of carbon steel.
Hand-crafted by artisans in Seki City, Japan, the Kramer by Zwilling Euro Line is hand-made from start to finish with a few industrialized processes which expedite the manufacturing of the blades. It's the best of old school craftsmanship and new school high-tech manufacturing that combine to create a truly beautiful knife at an affordable price.
The Bob Kramer Carbon Steel Euro Line features deep carbon steel blades, comfortable triple-riveted African Blackwood handles and perfect balance, making them a dream to use and sharpen. As with all Zwilling J.A. Henckels knives they carry a Lifetime Warranty. As with all high quality kitchen knives hand-washing is highly recommended.
