Family owned for generations. In 1814 Johann Abraham Wüsthof started making shears in the cellar of a small grinding workshop, called a kotten in the town of Solingen, Germany. There were over 90 such shops in a town with only 3,200 residents. As his craftsmanship gained recognition the enterprise grew. In 1832 with his three sons they moved to a larger location, also in Solingen where they set up their new factory. Soon after Johann's son Eduard Wüsthof took over in 1839 he utilized the factory's full potential producing a wide range of handmade pocket knives, along with bread, vegetable, and butcher's knives.
All Wüsthof knives carry a lifetime warranty against manufacturer defects. To this day, every single Wüsthof knife is still expertly crafted in Solingen, Germany — The City of Blades.
